April 9, 1993 is the day when Comrade Kim Jong Il (1942-2011) was elected high to the Chairman of the National Defense Commission of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea.
In mid-1990s when the country was undergoing a serious ordeal caused by the anti-DPRK isolation and stifling acts of the hostile forces and by successive natural calamities, he took upon himself a heavy responsibility of the Chairmanship of the National Defense Commission, the supreme post of the state, and made a new turn in the construction of a socialist state.
In those days the DPRK turned to a world-level military power and achieved brilliant successes in the construction of the self- supporting national economy.
In the 5th session of the 12th Supreme People’s Assembly held in April 2012 the Workers’ Party of Korea and the Korean people elected Comrade Kim Jong Il to the eternal Chairman of the National Defense Commission of the DPRK.
At the time the newspaper Indian and World Event ran under the title “Eternal Chairman of the National Defense Commission” as follows: Kim Jong Il, he is the eternal Chairman of the National Defense Commission of the DPRK.
The reality witnessed around the Korean peninsula and notably all the process of the fierce confrontation between the DPRK and the US which brought focus of the world concern at the end of the last century, testified that the state mechanism set up by H.E. Kim Jong Il enables it to safeguard the sovereignty and dignity of the country in a brilliant way against any ordeal and adversity. With the infinite prosperity of the DPRK the exploits made by H.E. Kim Jong Il will go down to posterity.
