The forts of East Prussia were abandoned in January 1945 without a fight. That would not have come to pass had Hitler been in defence of the area. Imo their only chance to win the war was a clear victory against Russia, the chances for that were next to nil in 1943. Anything else would have condemned them to failure in the long run. The idea that they could have made peace with one of the sides, especially that late in the game, is childish when we look at the post-war world. The war aim of the Judeo-Anglo-Americans was quite clear: destroy Hitlerism, reinstall Weimar. Have you not seen those American WW2 propaganda films* made by Capra and (((Litvak)))? This is a debatable statement. On the one hand, the war could have easily been won by that point had the Hitlerians declared total war economy in mid-1941, put femoids to work, and given Ukrainians independence.
On the other, even in 1943, they could have… done all the aforementioned things. And conscripted Volkssturm, too, which in reality they loitered with till September 1944.
Not attacking Kursk could have been a good start. Obviously, a possibility of a separate peace with Russia should have been seriously entertained. Even as far as relinquishing the Eastern territories. Everything to stop the war at any cost. Leave a possible continuation of the war by Stalin to the future.

This is why a peace with Russia seems more plausible.
